Pedestrian Safety

  • An oncoming vehicle may be traveling at a much higher speed than you think. It might also be much closer than you think.

  • Do not drink before you use the road, alcohol impairs your ability to judge and make decisions.

  • Ensure that you are clearly visible during the night. Always wear lightly coloured clothes or reflective clothing.

  • Do not walk in the road - walk on the pavement. If there is no pavement, walk alongside the road.
Be careful where you cross the road. If there is a pedestrian bridge, use it, even if it means walking further.

  • Walk on the right hand side of the road, as near to the edge of the road as possible, facing the oncoming traffic.

  • Never run across the road without looking both ways, and check that there is no traffic before crossing the road.
